Review: Erik Hassle – Hurtful (Single)

Name: Erik Hassle

Release: Hurtful (single)
Release Date: 07/02/10 UK (available in US)
Label: Island Records
Erik Hassle is a new melodic gem sourced from Sweden, who is fast making a global impression with his music. The personification of an 80s dapper heartthrob, Hassle releases his new single, ‘Hurtful’ on 8th Feb. This new boy pop sensation has duetted with golden girl Ellie Goulding, which is evidence enough that he’s amongst the biggest and best new acts for 2010.

‘Hurtful’ is a beautifully atmospheric pop track. Hassle’s vocals are accompanied by airy pulsing tones and gentle rolling march drums. The chorus is layered with more beats and electronic effects that contribute to the full and reflective feel of the track.

The song progresses to become fuller, with more instrumentals adding to the beautiful intricacies of this heartache ballad, floating within a bubble of Hassle’s soulful voice, tumbling cymbals, electric guitar and muted melodic sequences.

This is a great love song and an apt demonstrator of Erik Hassle’s magical pop style. He will be supporting Mika’s tour in February, so watch out for him!
