Review: Empire of the Sun – Without You (Single)

Name: Empire of the Sun
Release: Without You
Release Date: 31/01/10 (UK)

Empire of the Sun – the Australian orphic labyrinths have released a magical new single ‘Without You’ from their amazing album ‘Walking on a Dream.’

The track starts with that gorgeous electric piano, giving a mellowed 70s feel (i.e. Fender Rhodes on Billy Joel’s ‘Just The Way You Are’) against a light cymbal tap keeping time. The vocals come in after the introduction – heartfelt and Bowie-esque. The song increases in depth with extra beats and melody and the odd twinkling sound symptomatic of a Christmas song.

I love it – it’s uplifting, mystical and beautiful – like a dream. If I had to pick a song to run in extra slow m.o. towards the love of my life to, I think I’d choose this.
