Band: Emarosa
Venue: 02 Academy, Birmingham
Date: Dec 5th 2010
I felt honored to be seeing Emarosa for the second time this year. My first was in Cardiff, a very intimate gig at Clwb Ifor Bach, where I remember there being a seriously intense atmosphere. I had high expectations for tonight and, after traveling over 150 miles, I can honestly say I was in no way disappointed.
The band, admitting to still being slightly jet lagged, managed to not let it phase their performance one bit. Jonny’s voice was note perfect and as phenomenal as I remembered. It’s mind blowing to watch as he pounds out these epic high notes so effortlessly. He has such an engaging voice and is really is on top form tonight. Definitely one of my favourite vocalists. So unbelievably good to the point that you have to pinch yourself.
This was the first time I think that I actually had goose bumps while watching a band live. Emarosa have their audience believing they have experienced something outside the box. In other words, something brilliant.
The sound was deafening but at no point did I find myself wanting to complain about it. I could feel my ears ringing already but I still had no problem swaying along and enjoying the sound these guys made. Every member of the band produced a tight and fantastic sound with utter perfection.
Track of the night had to be ‘Heads or Tails? Real or Not’, a deeply meaningful song with beautiful lyrics, mixed with hypnotizing guitar riffs that really made you dance and sing along like a crazy person. They seem to be another band that has the talent to be even better than their record, to the point I can physically feel myself wanting to cry. They really are that good.
I had witnessed a fantastic show that evening and urge every music fan alive to witness these guys in action. I don’t think it’s possible for me to big them up anymore than I already have. Emarosa rule!
