Demi Lovato has released her fourth studio album – ‘DEMI‘. Although its been a difficult few years for the 20-year-old, songs of her struggle stopped at her third album ‘Unbroken‘, and this time around she showcases her growth and focuses on moving forward.
The album only features one previously released single, leaving fans in the dark with what to expect from the album. However, if the success of ‘Heart Attack‘ was anything to go by the album was not going to disappoint.
Demi promised fan’s that this album would be her most personal yet, so much so that she takes songwriting credit from practically all of the 10 tracks. Featuring a mixture of upbeat pop and soulful ballads, ‘DEMI’ contains tracks you would expect from the pop star; tales of heartbreak and romance, motivational club tunes and even a patriotic anthem or two (‘Made In The USA‘ compares her relationship to her home country?!).
‘Something That We’re Not‘ (Which features an ad-libbed ‘Yeah, not gonna happen dude.’ similar to that in Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’) is one of the highlights of the album; a polished pop tune with catchy lyrics flaunting her freedom and independence. This directly contrasts to ‘Nightingale‘ showcasing her impeccable vocals and songwriting ability. The album only has one track that features another artist – ‘Really Don’t Care‘ featuring UK X-Factor runner-up Cher Lloyd – but with a voice like Demi’s, there didn’t seem to be any need for contributions.
It’s not as intricate and raw as her previous work, but its a solid body of tracks that have reminded fans worldwide that whatever she’s been through, she’s still that fun-loving girl next door. It’s clear we haven’t even scratched the surface of Demi Lovato; ‘DEMI’ is just another incredible milestone.
