With ‘Positive Euth’, Death Valley High have more than evolved from their previous ‘Doom, In Full Bloom’, they’ve split into so many different directions it is impossible to pin this album down. DVH have ruptured any musical boundaries that once limited them and have opened out into unmarked territory. This eclectic edge leaves the listener unsure of what we are actually listening to but what it does mean is that if you hate one track you may love another. Finding its way between a defining album and an uncategorized mash up is ‘Positive Euth’ for you?
The album opens with ‘Bath Salt Party’ with its almost electronic sounding guitars conducting the quick time changes with the oozing bass and drums thrusting into the sex, death and rock and roll themes of the track. The song rips in as an opener breaching the boundaries of the album before it has even had a chance to begin. Next up is ‘The Present’ a bouncing track running in with pounding drums and intensifying with unusual and creeping vocals building into fat choruses and raunchy riffs.
Single ‘How2Kill’ slides in with electronic vibes and almost indie harmonies until the track staggers into a catchy, galloping, seesawing amalgamation leaving us completely stumped about whatever our ears witnessed. You will love it or hate it, so give it a go and find out. But when you get to ‘Batdanse’ and feel escorted to some eighties indie goth dance club don’t worry, we all felt it, but it is just another unique side to Death Valley High. The chilled rhythms from the guitars collide with fluctuating vocals that pull from one genre to another leaving us in some dance death state of confusion.
‘Positive Euth’ is an epic experimentation unlike anything else available to your ears, with the benefit of being able to skip to a track you love if you find something just isn’t your taste. Death Valley High pull in unique riffs that skitter into electronic sounds that pull them somewhere in between rock and pop that we can’t quite place our finger on but you are bound to love something.
