Following her divorce, Dawn Landes has produced her fourth album which is set to release on the 3rd March. The album will be released via Western Vinyl and is produced by Thomas Bartlett. ‘Bluebird’ predominantly focuses upon the separation with her former tour mate and lover, discussing her experience in a reflective and touching way.
The album is relatable and catchy, melodic and acoustic. Whilst Bluebird addresses the divorce in an emotive way, it still manages to promote a feeling of optimism and moving on. Although her voice is soulful and gritty for the most part, it also has soft undertones to it. These undertones enthuse a feeling of sincerity and narrative, making the tracks relatable but original.
Introducing the album with ‘Bluebird’, Dawn plays with her vocal range and jumps from the high to low notes, showcasing the gritty element to her voice. Complimented by the country acoustics and the reoccurring twang of her vocals, the track really takes a journey through happiness and sadness, moving past the sad narrative that the album is based upon. The backing track takes a journey which compliments the vocals. When the Kentucky-born vocalist addresses sadder issues, the acoustics go deeper… vice versa, when she sings in a more upbeat manner, the acoustics rise.
Other tracks on the album, include: the reminiscent and pleading ‘Try To Make a Fire Burn Again’, ‘Bloodhound’, ‘Heel Toe’, the most optimistic and progressive song of the album ‘Cry No More’, ‘Oh Brother’, ‘Diamond Rivers’, ‘Love Song’, ‘Lullaby For Tony’ and finally, ‘Home’.
When questioned about the album, Dawn stated that: “People will say this is a break-up record and I won’t deny it. I went through a painful divorce. I suffered and I cried and after the crying stopped the songs started to come. This album is the rainbow after the storm.”
