Review: CSS – La Liberacion (Album)

Find out what we thought about ‘La Liberacion’ by CSS right here..

Band: CSS
Album: La Liberacion

Firstly, having given the album a good listen, CSS really need to take their eighties pop inspired track ‘Fuck Everything’ and turn it into t-shirts for their live shows; these guys are really being laid into for their new album. Many critiques are labelling their third album ‘another flop’ and here at HTF we think it isn’t all doom and gloom!

The first track to be released off the album, ‘Hit’s Me Like A Rock’ stands out as the winning number, but this album still has something to offer. The track ‘I Love You’ adopts the use of some unique electronic effects, to simulate a call and response situation between two lovers. It also boasts some great song writing talent with lines like ‘love can find me’ making this a sweet little number.

One track that perhaps isn’t as successful is ‘Ruby Eyes’. The opening riff is promising as it connotes undertones of a Sex Pistols like inspired number. However, as the song proceeds you begin to realise it would probably sit best in a post party playlist, as it is arguably unnoticeable.

However, back to the positives! This album is not a write off and the track ‘You Could Have It All’ provides a delicate little piano intro, with a guitar driven build up to Lovefoxxx’s vocals. This is definitely worth a listen!

Okay, so in this instance it would appear that CSS’ first album ‘Cansei De Ser Sexy’, as it stands, is their greatest work yet and will be the foundation to which their music is judged. However, we don’t think these guys are finished yet. This album isn’t the worst but still isn’t their best. Lovefoxxx’s vocals are still one of the main factors that gives CSS there unique signature sound, which we love and that hasn’t changed.
