Review: Bertie Blackman – Black Cats (Single)

Name: Bertie Blackman

Release: Black Cats (Single)
Release Date: 03/03/10

25 year old Bertie Blackman has been causing a stir in her native country of Australia with already picking up prestigious ARIA and Triple J awards. Sounding like an electronic mix between Florence and the Machine, CSS and Crystal Castles, Bertie has all the right ingredients to get our attention and from this track we can see the success defiantly continuing over here

Black Cats” is the first single off her album “Secrets and Lies” and is a dark dance floor track that oozes sex, violence and dirtiness which Bertie’s vocals flow effortlessly over creating a beautifully haunting soundscape you can’t help but get sucked into.

The chorus is where the song is at its most dark as the synths kick in resembling the the tones of an old gameboy soundtrack while being strangely catchy. I feel like i’m playing a scary level of supermario while in some sort of dingy sex club. Quite a strange mix!

All in all the track is pretty good and I will look forward to hearing more from Bertie soon, and with the right push over here, i’m sure we all will be.
