Review: Baddies – ‘Tiger Face’ (Single)

We reviewed the new single from Southend indie rockers Baddies. Check out what we thought of their new track ‘Tiger Face’ here..

Band: Baddies
Release: Tiger Face (Single)

Southend indie/rock four-piece Baddies show their naughty side in new single ‘Tiger Face’. Kicking off straight away, whispers of the chorus lead you straight into the twangy sound of the repetitive guitar riff. It’s something that’s found commonly in the newer style of indie and popular music, but so many bands mess it up. If it’s going to be repeated, make it work. Baddies have shown a grand example, and it really does work! It’s catchy, and sure to be stuck in my head for a while.

The chorus and all the extra bits all show progression and variety. Even though bits of the repetitive riff are carried out through a lot of the song, it doesn’t drag out or seem over used. It’s just the right amount to make a great anthem for the new wave of indie/rock loving fans. I can clearly see them chanting along to the ongoing lyrics – “C’mon, put on your tiger face!”, with nothing else accompanying in the background. I can imagine it now at an outdoor gig or festival – Exciting!

Vocalist Michael Webster has the ideal voice for this style of music; its steady paced and has the right tone to stand out above the instruments. He throws in a bit of cheekiness, with his mini tiger growls added to the signing, which I love! Small things like that really make it stand out from the same old stuff. It shows personality and fun – something listeners will really pick up on.
