Highly acclaimed as well as highly feared hardcore band Raging Speedhorn are back. Their naturally aggressive and powerful persona continues to be portrayed in their music as their latest album Lost Ritual is no exception. Raging Speedhorn combine darker elements into their new material whilst still maintaining their classic tone. However the material is not the only new thing to expect, this is also the debut album for guitarist Jim Palmer who is the newest member to join the renowned metal band. The band have always had a strong following and that has hit home even more as the release of this album was due to Pledge campaign which has obviously payed off.
We may have waited years for this album but we can safely say it was worth it. The darker element is evident is a majority of the tracks with deeper and riffs. ‘Halfway to hell’ opens with a high amount of energy but later descends into thicker and murkier waters with a bass riff you’d want to sink your teeth into. Dark and clouded vibe can also apply ‘Evil or Mental.’ The vocals possess an increased raspy tone in comparison to the other tracks.
There is a definite focus on a thicker texture and at times a slower tempo which creates a greater atmosphere of dark sludge. The pinnacle of sludge is heard on the last track of the album which is ‘Unleash The Serpent.’ Distortion becomes a massive asset as does the lower register. The sound of church bells also become apparent which could be reverb. Suddenly fear has taken a trip down south beyond hell as Frank Regans vocals enter at a disturbingly low tone which is just above a whisper.
The darker elements of this album compliment their style superbly and deepens their sound so is definitely one to listen too.
