Portsmouth five piece Provoker are set to release their heavy debut EP the long defeat, which has been self-produced by the band’s bassist Richard Worrall and drummer Jack Stephens. Provoker are made up of former members of Munroe Effect, Housefires, Attention Thieves and Elephantis and have joined forces through their mutual love of heavy, passionate music and explosive live performance, so have no fear, this band definitely know exactly what they are doing.
The EP consists of five tracks, each one packed with heavy riffs and relentless speed and precision. ‘Admissions’ is an in-your-face opener, setting the tone of the EP from the get-go. Fast paced and crammed with energy, the hard hitting wall of noise showcases the band’s musical abilities with big vocals and a killer drum line. The following tracks combine the rough, screaming vocals with more clean vocals, like A Day To Remember meets The Devil Wears Prada. ‘Accountable’ swings in with a punch, living up to the hardcore element of the genre, before slipping into a more rock vibe and, interestingly, wrapping up with a unique guitar solo.
Overall, the EP is energetic and face melting with fierce breakdowns which will guarantee an epic live performance, and has been well mixed and mastered by pros Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Milk Teeth, Polar) and Drew Lavyne (The Bronx, Foo Fighters), securing a solid, precise sound and a cracking debut.
