Live Review: Muse – Emirates Stadium, London – 25/05/2013

HTF went to see Muse at the Emirates Arena in London at the weekend, see what we thought of the show here!

Band: Muse
Support: Bastille, Dizzee Rascal
Venue: Emirates Stadium, London
Date: 25/05/2013

Opening up for the mighty Muse this evening is Bastille, who are probably playing to the biggest crowd of their career so far with a capacity of 60,000 starring up at them. It’s a daunting crowd to face, but Bastille did not let it phase them. Lead vocalist Dan Smith turns his back for just a second to take a deep breath before plunging into their opening number which showed nothing but strength and admiration for what they do. For a band with no guitar, it all relies upon the beat of the drum to carry you through each track and Bastille have mastered it. Each song was pitch perfect with flawless harmonies and effortless sounding rhythms. They sound beautiful on the radio and they sound just as beautiful live. 7/10

Dizzee Rascal seemed like an unusual choice to open up for such a highly acclaimed rock band, but after his set tonight it seems it wasn’t that unusual at all. Dizzee Rascal is a showman. He knows how to get a crowd jumping, usually by repeating the words “jump, jump, jump” over and over, but nonetheless everyone was out of their seats. If you threw this man into a pack of goths, they’d come out wearing flat caps and baggy cameo shorts singing ‘Bonkers’ within 5 minutes. A great performance all round. 8/10

Muse played for a staggering 2 hours and it still wasn’t enough. With epic pyrotechnics and flying light bulbs, this was a show to remember. Highlights were the obvious hits ‘Plug In Baby’, ‘Time Is Running Out’ and ‘Super Massive Black Hole’ which got the crowd jumping like a wave of excited animals. The only disappointment came at the end when they just walked off and the lights went up without any recognition that it was the end. It felt a bit “okay times up I’m going” but then when you’ve won best live act at the Brit Awards its bound to have an impact. Without spoiling this show for the rest of Muse fans playing this tour, it’s hard to describe the phenomenon of this show. If you haven’t got tickets to see Muse yet, we recommend you get some. 9/10
