Miles Kane ended his headline UK tour showcasing his debut solo album ‘Colour Of The Trap’ with two final shows at The Electric Ballroom, Camden, and it’s fair to say he went out with a bang!
For a Tuesday night the place is buzzing as the crowd gather in anticipation. Folks, a six-piece band from the North-West of England, provided ample support which was well received.
As the lights were lowered, Miles struts on stage with his usual suave, swagger and style. Cool and confident front man that he has become, Miles seemed to be a man who has come into his own. For those who only see him as the side kick of Alex Turner, (yes they are best friends, yes they do have a side project with Last Of The Shadow Puppets), need to see him live and listen to his music to prove he has his own identity.
Kick-starting it all off with ‘Invisible’ the crowed was ecstatic and in place of the traditional yobbery of pushing and shoving there was a genuine respect and appreciation of good music. ‘Rearrange’ and ‘Kingcrawler‘ were huge crowd pleasers, his voice never faltering, crystal clear and heard even above the crowds dulcet tones and inebriated chants proving why he deserves to front the stage.
Miles, ever the charmer states “This one goes out to all the beautiful women out there” before opening into the seductive lyrics of ‘Happenstance’, just missing the sexy vocals of Miss Clemence Poesy.
The cover of French rocker Jacques Dutroncs ‘The Responsible’ was stunning, the lyrical transition from French to English was flawless, like the song was hand written for Miles.
He even showcased a brand new song called ‘Womans Touch’ that he wrote only a couple of weeks ago exclaiming “We are very excited about it and wanna keep getting better, writing new music” which went down a storm with the sexual lyrics such as “I’ve seen my future in that woman’s touch” a fine taster of good things to come.
Another superb cover came in the form of The Beatles ‘Hey Bulldog’; quite apt from the man that could possibly be a McCartney offspring.
“What a great f**cking Tuesday night” he grins, before he introduces their last song ‘Come Closer’ “this goes out to me mate Al (Alex) Turner.” Who was apparently watching in the crowd.
Returning for the encore of the night “I know it’s Tuesday night but let’s blow the f**king roof off” ‘Inhaler’ blasts out to a rapturous roar that sends the everyone in the venue chanting and singing along to from start to finish hailing it as a clear anthem track.
Energetic, enthusiastic and enchanting Miles Kane is off to Europe, catch him if you can otherwise if you were unlucky to miss him this year he will be joining Kasabian on their winter tour in December. You won’t be disappointed!
