It seems that either emo has made a massive come back and we haven’t been told or we have staggered back in time to a lan where Panic! At The Disco reign strong. To say the venue was packed would be rather a large understatement, there’s barely any room to breath never mind move and lose your mind to some great music. And forget about that beer you’ve been craving.
Pierce The Veil as headline support tonight was a genius idea by someone high up. Drag the screaming teenage fans of two of the biggest bands around and build them together. Pure genius! Pierce The Veil are definitely a band to evoke the sort of reaction that makes us want to cover our heads incase our ear drums get burst. There’s always that hope that fans look past the beauty of pint sized front man Vic and realize how bloody catchy and infectious their music really is. Vic and co are complete pro’s at working the stage and make it truly seem like they headline venues such as Brixton every day of their lives. The opening chords of ‘Bulls In The Bronx’ rock the room to vibrations whilst the echoing singing (or rather screaming) as ‘A Match Into Water’ begins is almost earth shattering. We always hate to be predictable and say ‘King For A Day’ was our highlight but we can’t deny it. Every note Kellin sings on the original Vic matches tonight and it’s sensational.
The only problem with having a band such as Pierce The Veil open for you is that you have big shoes to fill on stage but if Bring Me The Horizon can’t do this then no one can: simple enough. Now if anyone reading this knows anything about me then you’d know how much this band mean to me (tonight marks my 38th time, followed the next day by number 39!) and it takes a lot to WOW me now. But Bring Me The Horizon pull every stop out of the band and tonight is truly the best overall performance I can say i’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. From the huge cannons of dry ice, to the confetti, to the visual backdrop and pure energy from the band it’s a far cry from the days of ‘Count Your Blessings’.
In true Bring Me The Horizon fashion it’s a realitivly short set. 11 songs, off stage and then an encore, but the band only need to play opener ‘Can You Feel My Heart’ to show the crowd that tonight is going to be one of the best experiences they’ve ever had. Going back to when latest album ‘Sempiternal’ hadn’t been released tracks such as ‘Diamonds Aren’t Forever’ and ‘Chelsea Smile’ would be the high points of the set, provoking the biggest sing-a-longs. But now with two presessings album which have catapulted the band into levels of success they couldn’t dream of every song is the same. The crowd scream the words to every track from the opening “It’s the start of the end/ Surrender the throne/ The blood on my hands covered the holes” of ‘Empire (Let Them Sing) through to the repeated nature of “Every second, every minute, every hour, every day/ It never ends, it never ends” of ‘It Never Ends’.
Bring Me The Horizon have truly done something I never thought possible, they’ve changed the opinions of the people who once hated them and for that alone we salute them. Not only have they done that but they’ve showcased ‘Sempiternal’ to the world: an album we already knew was fantastic has been etched into our brains. And in Oli Sykes’ words “kick someone in the c**t”.
