Venue doors at 6pm!?! I literally had to rush from a tattoo parlour, cancelling any plans to get anything done, skipping any sort of pre gig food and drinks and arriving as the doors opened a hungry, sober and non tattooed man. Was it worth it? Openers for the night, Glamour Of The Kill, proved the answer was a massive yes!
Playing as tight as a ducks ass, and with some of the most spot on vocal harmonies in metal, GOTK got this early bird crowd up and moving with their maiden-esque solos, sing-along-chorus’s and mosh pit worthy riffage. Why they were first on the bill was beyond me, but they were definitely a perfect build up for the bands to come.
Nothing could possibly prepare the masses for what was to occur next. Iwrestledabearonce literally ripped every person in the venues brains and out and proceeded to punch them until they bled. They then fed them to a unicorn who shat them out onto a rainbow made of fire! With Iwrestledabear this could easily happen. This Louisiana 5 piece defiantly split crowd opinions with half the people loving every last second and the others just stood their confused and kinda wishing they had never left the house. Sounding like Walls Of Jericho, Enter Shikari and Dillinger Escape Plan fucking in an alley, Iwrestledabearonce are a band with so much going on you’re just as likely to hear some country music jig as you are a breakdown. Genius!
We Came As Romans filled the gap between the mayhem and tonights headlines Alesana. Their dual vocal assault controlling the crowd, the WCAR boys pummelled through the set like their lifes depended on it. Getting all up into the faces of the crowd, WCAR left their mark and left a trail of dead in their path
It almost seemed like the venue emptied out slightly for tonights headline act, but still only being around 9:30pm the crowd was still ready for action as Alesana took to the stage. With a passionate fan base, the band gave them every ounce of sweat they possibly could in return. With growler Dennis Lee storming around the stage like a man possessed and lead vocalist Shawn Mike bringing some melody to the mix, Alesana proved themselves worthy headliners and fans were treated to hit after hit from their past two albums ‘The Emptiness’ and last years ‘A Place Where The Sun Is Silent’. A girl I know has seen these guys nearly 20 times. Insane? Maybe you should check them out and judge for yourself.
