Who are Elements.? Good question. Formed in Southampton in 2013, the alternative rock five-piece are just about gearing up for the online release of their sophomore EP Where We Once Begun. In what is a relatively brief existence, the band can already cite tours with the likes of Bad Rabbits, Ashes To Angels and The Hype Theory. As for what they sound like – expect fun upbeat rock tunes infused with a carefully measured dosage of pop sensibilities, that will excite fans of bands like You Me At Six and Young Guns.
Fun opening track ‘Shaman’ takes the stage front and centre with a piercing guitar line before dancing between the rather indie vibe of their verses and the edgier choruses. ‘Plotting Treason or Saving The World’ has a completely different vibe altogether. Just looking at it lyrically, you can already see it’s heavier “Paint your nails / Go to hell / With your shallow intentions / Forget them”. This definitely also translates into the overall sound, which is dominated by the twining guitars. Fused with the ability to make you itch to sing along, this one has clear single potential written all over it.
One thing is clear, Elements. are not too concentrated on creating that “one sound” to represent their music, as some bands are. As a result, Where We Once Begun is far from sounding static – displaying the band experimenting with different domains. From the indie inspiration of their opening track, to the mellow ballad-esque intro to ‘Make It Out Alive’ and all the way to the explosive closing track ‘Torchlight’; this EP will surely bring in some well deserved hype. With shows and festivals lined up this summer, including an appearance at Butserfest, be sure to spare some time to catch these guys.
