Doro – Love’s Gone To Hell | EP Review

Widely known as the queen of rock and metal, German singer Doro recently released her brand new single ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’. Here are our thoughts.

German hard rock / metal singer Doro has had quite a long career in music, having played in bands and embarked on a solo career since the 80s. Her latest release is the “maxi-single” Love’s Gone To Hell, which at six tracks long, is pretty much an EP.

As the title clearly gives away, the main focus is on the title track ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’, which is even more apparent as you notice its repeated appearance on the record. First there’s the radio version, then the slightly longer single version, but that’s obviously not complete without the original demo version. Upon first hearing the single, it just comes across to us as mediocre. The chorus falls short, like it’s about to hook you but misses by a few inches, like we’re waiting for the song’s peak but it never arrives.

The other three tracks on the album are ‘It Still Hurts’ featuring Lemmy Kilmister (which in light of recent events, seems an appropriate choice of the EP, as well as live versions of two older tracks ‘Rock Till Death’ and the massive throwback to Doro‘s debut album in ‘Save My Soul’.

Ironically, these three songs bring a little something extra to the EP as opposed to lead single. Doro and Lemmy‘s voices work so well together in their duet, and the live versions sees Doro‘s come alive in ways ‘Love’s Gone To Hell’ failed to do. Not a bad release, but for a musician widely labeled as the queen of rock and metal, we expected a little bit more.
