The Final Broadcast‘ is the brand new EP from Welsh ‘electronicore’ band, Clear The Auditorium. The band have attempted to put together a concept EP based on the idea that Britain is on the verge of a nuclear apocalypse. The EP begins with a mock news broadcast to set the scene. It’s an interesting idea the shines strongly throughout the release, keeping each track uniform in terms of lyrical content and adding an extra storytelling element.

Tracks such as We Are The Danger,’ and Vacant Streets‘ give the EP an incredibly accessible quality, with strong melodies and lyrics that are bold and easy to grasp. These tracks also appear to be heavily influenced by Clear The Auditorium’s fellow countrymen, The Blackout, who are famed for effortlessly merging the more conventional side of rock music, with heavier vocals. And hey, if The Blackout can be successful off the back of that winning formula, then there’s every hope for Clear The Auditorium to do the very same.

As positive as all this sounds, the EP does fall short in a few areas.

It is all too easy to hear Clear The Auditorium’s use of synths and programming, and label them as just another Enter Shikari rip off without a fair trial.  Tracks such as Prologue and If We Burn could well pass for the real thing, not to mention the clean vocals on the release are incredibly similar to Rou Reynolds’.

However, there is one thing that Clear The Auditorium fall short on. Their lyrics aren’t as strong as they could potentially could be. This is painfully clear on the EP’s closing track, Epilogue‘, which seems to drag on a little under the burden of a few lyrical cliches and misses the mark of this being the epic closer the band were aiming for it to be.

That’s not to say that the EP is terrible by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, there is a lot of room for improvement, but let’s focus on the positives. The story running throughout the release is an interesting one, there is no doubt about that. And Clear The Auditorium clearly have the beginnings of something great that they can undoubtedly hone into something spectacular. Watch this space.
