West Yorkshire rockers As Sirens Fall have just released their debut EP The Hospital Party. Though the band are newcomers to the scene, only forming in 2014 and hitting the scene in 2015, they already have quite the established pop-rock-meets-alt-rock sound going on—not to mention the fact that they’ve toured like pros.
The Hospital Party is equal parts youthful optimism and youthful angst. And as far as debut EP’s go, this one is pretty solid. It does need some work, but it has a lot of potential. And it definitely isn’t lacking in production—after all, it was produced by Romesh Dodangoda and engineered by Rob Thomas (Bring Me The Horizon, Twin Atlantic, The Blackout) at Longwave recording studios.
The 80’s-riff-heavy ‘Smoke’ and post-hardcore-infused banger ‘State Of The Artist’ show the heavier, alt-rock side of the band. Perfect for fans who don’t dig the ferociousness of metalcore, but want the same weighty, aggressive vibe—maybe with a breakdown or two.
‘Lonely Tomorrows’ is a standout track on the EP. The upbeat, summer-sounding melody is filled with energetic, bold drums, cheerful pop punk style riffs and passionate, high vocals—all the makings of a concert sing-a-long anthem.
The emotion-filled ‘Where You Are’ is all about delicate, expressive verses with a huge, energetic chorus. Similarly, emotional pop rock ballad ‘Last Goodbyes’ starts off with strong Funeral For A Friend ‘Juneau’ vibes with its punchy guitar hook. The bouncy tune is filled with hopeful sentiments and upbeat, optimistic flourishes (and a beautiful clap-along moment). It’s a tune that will definitely encourage crowd participation.
This EP is a great starting point for As Sirens Fall, and we don’t doubt that we will see big things from them.
