Antoinette are a five-piece post-metalcore band hailing from the South West of England. Following October 2013 EP Set in Sand, the band are currently gearing up to release their latest offering: Renaissance. The five-track EP begins with the introductory voice mail answering machine in ‘0.0.0.0’; leaving you unsure about what to expect from the upcoming four songs.
‘Machines’ features a special guest appearance from Justin Hill – vocalist of SikTh: a way to grab the listener’s attention from the get go! The track may be laced with heavy riffs, but it has also got a melodic hook that’s catchy as hell. ‘Conform/Control’ and ‘Misanthropist’ follows suit bringing in even MORE energy. The latter’s bridge is the only time in the EP where the band are not packing in a punch – cooling off for a bit before finishing off in the same pace they came in. EP closer ‘Avalanche’, which the band recently premiered on Soundcloud, can be characterised as harsh and heavy throughout but brings in juxtaposing sweet, clean vocals to deliver the chorus.
Antoinette are exactly what you would expect from a band of this genre. All the energy in the world is poured into these songs, but not without a marriage with a more melodic approach. The quintet’s EP is the perfect addition for any post-metalcore fan.
