‘The Fall of Math’, originally released ten years ago by the instrumental post-rock band 65daysofstatic, is due to re-release on 24th March via Monotreme Records. The deluxe edition can be purchased as a CD or a 180 gm vinyl and will include: 2 CDs with The Fall of Math, the Hole EP and B-sides from Retreat! Retreat! (single) on.Following in the footsteps of their recent album ‘Wild Light’, the re-release of ‘The Fall of Math’ will demonstrate the band’s undoubted abilities and acknowledge the smooth synthy sounds that they produced when they were less recognisable within the industry.
The album is soothing, original and iconic. It reinterprets what we define as contemporary rock and appropriates the 00’s as a marker point for the band. Whilst 65daysofstatic are heavily instrumental and like to play with overlaying tones- guitars, drum beats, clever mixing – we can tell that the band are trying to blend electronica and rock music into one, stripping the sometimes unnecessary vocals away and leaving behind this stagnant, disturbed and contorted sound.
Track 6 ‘The Fall of Math’ particularly demonstrates the heavy and grungy guitar abilities that 65daysofstatic produce, whilst orchestral moments and climatic riffs emphasise that the band are all about stimulating original sounds. While Track 1 ‘Another Code Against the Gone’ is a noisy song with a hint of robotic vocals and an alien like sound… so contemporary before it’s time and difficult to explain in terms of musicianship. Smoothly advancing into track 2 ‘Install A Beak In The Heart That Clucks Time In Arabic’, which mixes a slow delicate piano sequence and a fast paced, guitar come heartbeat sound into one, showcasing the album’s overall sound.
Other tracks include ‘Retreat! Retreat!’, ‘Default This’, ‘I Swallowed Hard Like I Understand’, ‘This Cat is a Landmine’, ‘The Last Home Recording’, ‘Hole’, ‘Fix The Sky A Little’ and ‘Aren’t We All Running?’.
