By now you will probably have heard the news that Yellowcard are calling it a day. Unlike their hiatus from 2007 to 2011, this will be of a more permanent nature. Following their forthcoming self-titled album and the world tour they’re doing in support of it, they will be hanging up their instruments and disbanding for good.
In tribute we thought we’d have a look back at some of the stuff that we will always remember about Yellowcard.
- They’re the pop-punk band with the violin
Ok so maybe they’re not the only one, but they are definitely the biggest pop-punk band with a violin player. As well as the absolutely knock-out songs they wrote, the violin lines are what made Yellowcard stand out from the rest of the crowd and what lead to a nearly 20 year career.
2. Ocean Avenue
Those of you who were there to witness them playing this album in full at Slam Dunk can attest to just how good it is. Wall-to-wall excellence. The title track alone has become a favorite of rock clubs across the country, but really the whole album is a world-class choice to listen to over the long days of the summer.
3. The ex-drummer’s name
This one is a little bit of a cheat, especially seeing as how he isn’t in the band any more, but ‘Longineu W. Parsons III‘ has to be up there as one of the best names in rock music.
4. Their collaborations
In recent times Yellowcard have shown a great understanding of who’s who in rock music. On their last album Lift A Sail they worked with Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire, and Southern Air in 2012 featured Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Cassadee Pope (Hey Monday) and Tay Jardine (We Are The In Crowd) and even featured writing credits from one Patrick Stump on ‘Here I Am Alive’.
5. Their last album and world tour
Again, possibly a bit of a cheat because they haven’t happened yet, but you can bet your bottom dollar that they’re both going to be pretty damn special. The tour will be finishing off right here in the UK, so make sure to go and pay your respects to one of the bands that helped make pop-punk what it is today!
