Interview: Mic Righteous (HTF Exclusive)

Hit The Floor magazine recently got the chance to catch up with Mic Righteous to find out all the latest on the Tim Westwood beef and also to find out who would play him in a movie of his life. Click here to read more!

Mic Righteous is one of the most promising UK rappers of the moment and he isn’t shy of a little controversy it would seem, as he has recently taken on Hip-Hop veteran Tim Westwood in a very public war words. Hit The Floor Magazine were very lucky to catch up with Mic Righteous to find out if Tim Westwood will in fact make it to his Christmas card list this year, and if he plans to “sell out” anytime soon.  So here’s what happened when Emilie HTF met Mic Righteous.

Emilie HTF: Hi there Mc Righteous! Thank you for taking the time to talk to HTF today! How you feeling?

MR: Yo. I’m feeling good thanks. Thanks for taking the time to interview me. haha

Emilie HTF: What have you got in store for us over the next months?

MR: ALLOT!! Top of the list is my new E.P “Open Mic” which is up for pre-order now but is being released for purchase on 11.02.13. With that comes some bodeos, new freestyles, my first headline London show on 12.02.13 at Barfly London. Also got some great collabs coming up and other projects on the side that I’m very proud to be involved in.

Emilie HTF: What or who inspired you specifically to make music and why?
MR: I always say this. It’s a cliché but in a nut shell. Life. My early years on this planet were a madness and I naturally found writing was in allot of ways my way to deal with what was going on.

Emilie HTF: Within the UK hip hop and grime scene it is often argued that some artists ‘water-down’ their music and ‘Sell- out’ to appeal to a more mainstream audience by producing a ‘club’ track. Is this something you would ever consider cashing in on?

MR: I would never. “Sell-out” as they say but I will continue to try to expand my audience through making different “strains” of my music as it were. You will never hear me on a track talking poo. If I make a club track it will still be conscious and have a concept. I think people are quick to jump on this “sell out” bandwagon when someone become more popular. I put it like this. Do I go to my listeners work and judge them for something they done at work yesterday that I don’t completely agree with? Or if they work for a company that I don’t agree entirely with their ethics? Do I feel an ownership over where and how people should earn their money to support their families? No. Put it like this. Has a bin man that works for a local corrupt Council just to get by and feed himself “sold-out” not in my opinion. But then again my supporters are VERY hard to please some times. Hahaha.

Emilie HTF: Are there any artists out there that you find particularly inspiring at the moment?

MR: Yes loads. U.K and U.S from Grime/rap to pop I think there are some truly great and inspiring artist out at the moment. Too many to name.

Emilie HTF: Have you heard back from Tim Westwood yet in regards to ‘Sack City’? Care to set the record straight about that disagreement?

MR: Hahaha. Yea slyly though. Instead of doing a man thing and trying to approach/call man he went through concerted effort to remove the audio and videos from youtube as well as trying to bad mouth me to anybody in the industry he can. But really seeing how he moves does this surprise anybody? What people don’t understand is that he triggered the whole thing through bitch methods.

Emilie HTF: On a lighter note…here at HTF magazine we like to ask a few random questions so we feel like we have bonded a bit more… would you care to answer these for us?

MR: Of course. Hit me

Emilie HTF: What is the WORST track of all time and why?

MR: Reh Dog – Why Must I Cry? – Because it’s s**t

Emilie HTF: Who would play you in a movie about your life and what would the movie be called?

MR: Denzel Washington – American gangster hahahaha

Emilie HTF: Your favourite film of all time is…

MR: Terminator 2

Emilie HTF: Most embarrassing track on your ipod/mp3 player/tape player?

MR: At the moment 2chanz and Drake – No Lie

Emilie HTF: Anything else to add?

MR: Just a thank you to yourselves and everybody for your interest and support. And to also ask people to go out and continue supporting buy purchasing the E.P of I-Tunes and coming to my shows as it’s this that will show the popular demand for conscious music and that will allow me to keep doing what I’m doing.

Emilie HTF: Thanks Mic Righteous!
