HTF caught up with the fantastic L Marshall just before his Christmas break. The young singer-song writer has worked with Wretch 32, Loick Essien and this year released the single ‘Castles’ which featured the brilliant Little Nicki. We spoke about the single, future work and of corse the festive season!
HTF: Hey L, thanks for spending some time with us here at HTF. First off how are you?
L Marshall: Great thank you… Flying away for Xmas today so I feel pretty great.
HTF: So your new track Castles is a great track, are you happy with the final outcome?
L Marshall: Of course! If I wasn’t it wouldn’t be out yet lol. It’s received a very warm welcome that’s what makes me happiest.
HTF: The video to the track suits the song so well, where did you film the video?
L Marshall: Barcelona… We went out there for four days and had a blast… Harry (the director) really worked well with me and it all felt very comfortable and laid back. We didn’t really have a plan or a script, just an idea of what we wanted out of it all… But I think that’s why it worked so well.
HTF: The feature of Little Nikki on Castle’s is brilliant but who would you want to work with on future projects?
L Marshall: Just talented individuals who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty making the music, lol. That said I would love to do something with either Emily Sande or Ed Sheeran. I think both are OUTSTANDING artists.
HTF: We all know your brilliant songwriting ability have you been working with anyone or you keeping all the best stuff?
L Marshall: Haha, I’m keeping all the ‘Me’ stuff. I haven’t done much outside writing lately tbh, I’ve been focussing on finishing my album and being an artist. I imagine I’ll get back into it next year but I’m afraid I’ve been secluded in my studio growing my Gandalf beard since summer.
HTF: And any thoughts of an album?
L Marshall: Absolutely. It’s called ‘The Creed’ and I’ve spent my whole life working on it. Its finally taken shape in a way I’m happy with.
HTF: With Christmas around the corner we were wondering, what’s on your Christmas list this year?
L Marshall: Lol, well I’ve been working my way through all the Assassin’s Creed games hoping to reach the latest sequel by Xmas. So for me it’s simply Assassin’s Creed 3, some good food, good drink, and the time to enjoy it all.
HTF: What was the worse Christmas present you have ever received?
L Marshall: That’s easy. A pair of socks from my mum! She’s far too practical…
HTF: What was the best Christmas present you have ever received?
L Marshall: That’s harder… It wasn’t really a gift it was more of an experience. A girl I used to date dressed up like Santa (minus the beard, belly and most of the clothes) and she… Well, it was an experience ;-p
HTF: Was there anything else you wanted to add Marshall?
L Marshall: YES! Castles ft. Little Nikki is available for pre-order from 16/12/12… And it’s out February 25th 2013. Hehe, that’s all. Thanks for having me!
