HTF: A lot of bands are doing things (e.g. album re-releases) to mark various anniversaries of late, will you guys be doing anything special for your 10 year anniversary next year?
Versus You: We haven’t really planned anything yet but we’ll surely play a show and have a huge party with cake and drinks. Maybe we’ll play a very long set with songs from each record.
HTF: Do you have a specific song out of your back catalogue that you enjoy playing live the most?
VU: ‘The Mad Ones’ is one we always play. I think it might be our most loved song. ‘Patient Patient’ from ‘The Mad Ones’ album is always fun to play. I believe ‘Comme Ci Comme Ca’ and ‘This War Is Like A Drug To You!’ should have been bigger hits so we’ll keep playing them until people realize.
HTF: Your latest release ‘Moving On’ came out back in February, how would you describe it? How is it different to your previous releases?
VU: It’s a very honest record and we came very close to make it sound like we sound live, which was always important to us. Musically it’s not too far from what we did before, it has fast songs, slower songs and ballads. It might sound a little rougher than the ones before which is exactly the way we wanted it. We’ve tried things we never tried before and they all worked. I wish this would be our debut record because it sounds like us.
HTF: What is the punk scene like in Luxembourg? Did you get many chances to see your favourite bands live there growing up?
VU: Tiny but there’s a lot of love. Everybody knows everybody. There’s no backstabbing etc. We’ve played with some bands we love. (NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Lucero, Blake Schwarzenbach …) but all of my favorite bands broke up some time ago. My favorite bands are Crimpshrine, Fifteen, The Replacements, Jawbreaker, Pinhead Gunpowder, Husker Du, Neil Young, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
HTF: If you could play with one other band on earth, past or present, who would it be and why?
VU: Crimpshrine, Fifteen, The Replacements, Jawbreaker, Pinhead Gunpowder, Husker Du, Neil Young, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Lou Reed and a maybe a couple more. Why? Because they’re huge influences.
HTF: ‘Moving On’ comes on three different coloured vinyl options. Is vinyl a big deal for you?
VU: Most of us collect vinyl so it’s very important to us to release our own records on vinyl.
HTF: You’re about to embark on a pretty extensive UK tour. Will you be re-visiting some old favourite places or is it mostly new ground you’re covering?
VU: I’ve been to the UK a lot but never with the band. We’ve never toured the UK and are very excited and grateful.
HTF: Describe Versus You in three words!
VU: Honest, therapy, ballads.
