Summerlin‘s debut album ‘You Can’t Burn Out If You’re Not On Fire’ on the 14th May 2012. Produced by the legendary Pelle Henricsson (Refused, In Flames) it is the album for anyone who wishes to escape the every day humdrum of life. Borrowing a very famous quote from The Door‘s frontman Jim Morrison, the album’s title more than summarises the heart of the album, and with the opening track ‘Let It Go‘ the album hands you an important message of hope, coupled with the ugliness of every day life.
Going through a number of line-up changes over the years, the band have just channelled these frustrations into their passion for music, and into such songs as ‘Sink or Swim‘, which is all about being committed with what you want to do and taking the plunge. “It’s all about taking that leap and committing to something, and what happens, happens” explains bassist Benjamin Jackson “The song’s really about an ex-member, who didn’t want to, so we wrote the song while he was actually in the band. He didn’t really know all the lyrics were about him, while he sat across the room.”
Summerlin formed in late 2008 and since the get go have been writing material that combines pop-punk with the heavier elements they also loved. The early growing pains and line-up changes of course created some problems, but by summer 2009 the band unveiled their EP, ‘So Make Your Move’. Early tours began in the UK and Europe, climaxing with their slot at last year’s Slam Dunk Festival, along side such names as Less Than Jake, Goldfinger, Anti-Flag and Set Your Goals.
The album is set for release May 14th, and you can also catch the band on a small number of dates this April:
21st – Nottingham, Rock City
22nd – Camden, Barfly
24th – Doncaster, Leopard
28th – Manchester, Satans Hollow
