Facedown is a monthly rock club night running at The Scala, Kingscross in London. We had heard a lot about the night previously, so decided to head down to check out what all the fuss was about. What we got was definitely one of the top London club nights we have had the pleasure of attending.
First thing to be noted was the DJ was brilliant. Back to back classics to the point where I honestly felt they had raided my Itunes library. With a mix of everything from Allister, A Day To Remember, NOFX, System Of A Down and Paramore it made for pretty much the perfect rock club atmosphere and defiantly no complaints from anyone. To break things up, part way through the night they have a band, which this time was old skool, ska punk legends Spunge.
Spunge have been around for time but their performance was as fresh and energetic as I remembered them. Ska punk may not be as popular as it was back in the day but they still seem to be able to get the crowd dancing and singing and put on a great show. This mixed with some of the old pop-punk tracks being played it almost seemed we had time warped and I could whack on P-Rock when I got home.
Now as if people hadn’t had enough fun by this point, next up, The Scarlett Girls. Nothing finishes a night better than some semi naked girls getting water poured over them and playing with cream. I think anyone would agree this is a bonus on any night!
Now the final thing that made the night for me may not be everyones cup-of-tea, but for me it just made the night finish on an epic note. Just before we leave, I realise I never checked the upstairs out. Soo glad I did! Tempa T ‘Next Hype’ blasting from the speakers, followed by Lethal Bizzle and So Solid Crew. Did I really just stumble into an upstairs Grime rave? I think I may have!
To sum up, if your in London on the first Friday of any month, get yourself down to Facedown. It’s a quality night with good tunes, bands, girls and you definitely have the HTF recommendation.
Facedown.. we will see you again soon!
