Incubus drummer Jose Pasillas is launching his first full collection of artwork available to the public entitled ‘Abstract + Rhythm Landscapes’. The 100 canvases are to be unveiled on 1st November but until then you can watch a teaser of the release below.
Joe Pasillas’ first day as a drummer was his first day in Incubus but 20 years later they are a multi-platinum Billboard award winning band and Pasillas is one of the most respected drummers around. Now he continutes to divine a unique path through art with the announcement of ‘Abstract + Rhythm’ is his first collection of fine art. The collection is painted by drumsticks and Jose said “Though I’ve been doing artwork all my life, this is my first full collection for public view”.
Each piece from the collection features a sonic landscape where rhythm is translated onto canvas through the use of a process that converts drum strokes into colour and light. He said of the project “I’ve always been a big fan of Banksy, Shepard Fairey and the whole stencil revolution, and I’ve slowly started incorporating those kinds of ideas and elements into my canvases. I also like repetition, and stenciling is perfect for repetition.”
