Although having been on permanent hiatus for the last four years, post-metal innovators ISIS have recently been forced to change their Facebook moniker over controversies surrounding an Islamic militant group.
The ‘Islamic State’ terrorist group, referred to as ISIS by many media sources, has been linked to the brutal death of journalist James Foley, and has been described by the New York Times as “a Sunni Muslim group [which] practices a perverted, nihilistic version of Islam that does an extreme disservice to millions of Muslims … pursuing more peaceful and purposeful lives.”
The band have received various negative comments via their Facebook page by those under the belief that they are linked with the militant group in some way. Former drummer Aaron Harris has stated that “Fans have emailed us that they’re reluctant to wear our t-shirts … we’ve been watching the news in disbelief. We haven’t commented on it because we haven’t been an active band since 2010, even though our music does live on. We maintain out Facebook page just to keep people up to date on our current musical projects.”
