Ahead of Iron Maiden’s headline slot at Sonisphere Festival earlier this summer, front man Bruce Dickinson teamed up with The Great War Display Team for a staged 12-minute display in the skies above the Knebworth to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I. The staged ‘dogfight’ was a modern tribute to the daring English and German pilots who ruled the European skies between 1914 and 1918 and now, Iron Maiden have shared the video from the event.
The show wowed crowds with nine exact replica World War I combat planes and Dickinson featured in his very own Fokker DR1 Triplane. The Great War Display Team performs re-enactments throughout the UK and Europe all year round.
With regards to the display, Dickinson said “What some of these fighter pilots achieved [during World War I] was nothing short of miraculous given the conditions they were working under and the seriousness of what was at stake”.
