Interview: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (HTF Exclusive)

HTF caught up with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones this week to chat festival season, their new album ‘The Magic Of Youth’ and more!

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have been one of the main contributors and longest serving  members of the ska-punk genre and their influences can be heard through many many bands. They recently released their latest album, ‘The Magic of Youth’, which we at HTF reviewed last year, and we caught up with them to find out how they are.

Check out our exclusive interview with the band here below!

You can find out more on The Mighty Mighty Bosstones via their official website here: http://www.bosstonesmusic.com/

HTF: Hi guys, thanks for chatting to us! The new album is fantastic, how did you find the inspiration for the new album?

BT: We found the inspiration the way we always find it from our own personal lives, things that interest us, how we view things and what it’s like being a BossTone in the modern world. The truth is inspiration can come from anywhere and we’re never limited by a single source.

HTF: You guys are renowned for starting/pioneering the ska-punk genre. What are your feelings on having this label?

BT: It’s one we’ve earned and certainly deserve but the genre, ska-core was created for the most part by us trying to avoid being tagged or labeled. We’ve be inspired and influenced by a lot of different types of music and have always reserved the right to play whatever we want. “Ska-core” was the reluctant answer to the often asked question “what do you call the music you guys play?”

HTF: How was headlining the Lock-up stage at Reading and Leeds Festival this year? Do you enjoy the festival experience? Have you got any plans for this year’s festivals yet?

BT: Headlining the Lock-up stages was fantastic we had a great time and hope to hit a few more festivals this year.

HTF: Question from Laila, singer for Sonic Boom Six – Which did you prefer playing at this year? Reading Festival or Leeds Festival?

BT: Which one did Laila, singer for Sonic Boom Six join us on stage for? I’ve become a S.B.S. fan and Laila is a star.

HTF: What’s the difference, if any, between playing your own show and playing at a festival?

BT: Less pressure at the festival if I had to pick but the reality is we try to give everything we’ve got at every show play.

HTF: Do you have any touring plans in the pipelines?

BT: Yes we hope to tour soon and as much as possible- I’m not sure if that’s the pipeline or not?

HTF: In the beginning your shows were incredibly lively affairs, and a lot of men seemed to get naked for you. Is this still the same today?

BT: I recall lively but not the naked men part. I do a lot of heavy drinking in England did I miss something.

HTF: Is there a difference between the UK crowds and the US crowds, and which one do you prefer to play to?

BT: No matter what country we seem to attract what we refer to as a BossTone crowd and it’s always great. That being said we love being in the UK and performing there.

HTF: What’s your favourite band to perform with, and are there any crazy backstage stories you care to divulge?

BT: We love touring with the American Ska band The Pietasters and when that happens it’s always insane.

HTF: What plans do you have for the foreseeable future, or are you just taking it day by day?

BT: Minute by minute.

Thanks so much for chatting to us guys! HTF x
