We caught up with Canadian metal-dubstep lads Skip The Foreplay to chat about their upcoming album, bromance in the band and their plans for the rest of this year.
Read below what bassist Julien had to say!
HTF: I want to start with asking about the name. How did that come about? It’s a bit saucy!
Ju: It comes from a certain song from a certain pop singer called Jason Derulo. But, most of all, we’re saucy people so it fits us well.
HTF: Have any of you guys taken up any interesting hobbies since the birth of Skip The Foreplay and if you could take one up what would it be?
Ju: Yeah. When we’re not on tour, waking up late and having nothing to do. When we’re on tour, sleeping as much as we can to spend as much time as we can not spending money and then wake up only to try to figure out how to have a bit of fun and eat with 10$ a day.
HTF: Have you ever received crazy fan mail or requests?
Ju: We’re not that well known yet but it happens from time to time. One time in Cleveland, me and Chuck we’re hanging out backstage after our set and three random old women came in. You could tell they had a drink two and they wanted some. The problem was they looked like fat sea creatures that could very well have been Led Zeppelin’s guilty pleasure back in the days. So we tried to kick them out politely but they persevered until we kicked them out wisely.
HTF: How long have you guys known each other and is there any ‘bromance’ in the band?
Ju: I have known Math since five or six years. We have been in a couple of bands together before this one. No bromance though, just brosomeness. The rest of the band are total strangers and they scare the shit out of me. Especially our drummer Marc. He’s a real nice guy, way too nice… I’m sure he’s up to something…
HTF: If you guys could take the lead role in any film ever made, who would you be?
Ju: Mickey Mouse. A cool and chill mouse that everybody loves except sad old men. Plus, his girlfriend looks just like him, his bestfriend is a bipolar duck and he has a pet dog and a friend dog and, when you think of it, that is fucking weird. Why is pluto treated like a pet if goofy is treated like a human being? Sounds unfair to me.
HTF:What have you been getting up to over the last few months?
Ju: I kind of answered that already didn’t I? Getting up sucks. Sleeping is awesome.
HTF: Your debut album Nightlife is set for release real soon, can you give us an insight as to how it was recorded and let us in on anything before its release?
Ju: We recorded it at Bird Wazo studios in Montreal with our good friend Frank Daniel Shooflar; former drummer of Blessed by a Broken Heart who is now a stay at home dad/producer who gives birth to kids and records.
And yes, I can let you in on something. This is a really good record; there’s only one filler song on it. Just one. All of the other songs could be singles. That’s a pretty good ratio if you consider the standards of the industry.
HTF: What else have you guys got planned for the rest of the year?
Ju: We got a couple of dates on the east coast right after the release of our album. After that, we’re playing the whole Vans Warped Tour this summer and we got a couple of dates booked already in Fall but I can’t really tell you what it’s all about yet.
HTF: Lastly, will Skip The Foreplay visit the UK soon?
Ju: Nothing confirmed yet but I hope so. I love Europe and I’ve always wanted to visit the UK. I heard everything is expensive over there though. Anyway, thank you for your time and see you soon.
