EnterTheLexicon are a three piece rock band from the depths of the north (Newcastle to be precise). The band are set to release their debut self titled EP on 3rd June. You can read our review of the EP here. With influences from bands such as Reuben and Nirvana the band began to spark interest after the constant support from BBC Introducing in Newcastle.
The band signed with the up and coming LA record label Kill/ Hurt Recording earlier this year. We had a chat with the band prior to the EP release. Check out what happened here.
HTF: Let’s start off to get better acquainted with EnterTheLexicon; tell us a random fact about each member!

HTF: How did you guys initially meet and start the band?
ETL: I (Mykl) was playing with some other guys a couple years back and played with Ben on different nights when he was in another band. I remember thinking…damn he’s fucking good, just beating the hell out of his drums, it was great. So when the line up ended up changing I sent him a message. Danny got introduced to us through our EP he heard it and really got into it and it just so happened we needed a bass player so soon afterwards so he came in for a jam and it just worked out great.
HTF: Your self-titled EP is coming out next month. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it?
ETL: I think each song has its own inspiration, just whatever feelings, situations, thoughts and emotions and stuff that were lingering at that point in time comes out in each song. A main feeling or theme that seems to run through it all is frustration and honesty. You can always be at your most honest when playing music I think so its a perfect medium to vent.
HTF: We gave it a listen and rated it 5/5, and we’ve also seen that your Bigcartel has sold out of the physical copies! Have you gotten any feedback on the new songs, especially your new single ‘Do You Feel The Same’?
ETL: Yeah thanks so much for that! Really cool that people are enjoying listening to it as much as we enjoy playing it. It’s awesome, everyone we talk to after gigs is always super positive about it. The reaction to the video for the single has been amazing too, we’ve just broken 1000 views in under three weeks of going live so its really great.
HTF:You signed with Kill/Hurt Recordings in LA earlier this year, how did that opportunity come about?
ETL: By chance really, Shade from Kill/Hurt came down to a gig of ours a few months back after an invite was thrown his way, he really liked it and bought a t shirt and a cd from Ben actually who just thought he was some random American dude. A couple weeks later he sent me (Mykl) a message and said he’d shown the guys at Kill/Hurt the cd and they loved it and it just went from there. It was really old school organic, which nowadays is a bit rare I think, so it was cool.
HTF:To support the release of the EP, you’ll be playing a few shows over in California. How excited are you about trying to “break” the States?
ETL: Yeah it should be awesome! None of us have even been to the US so going all as a group for the first time to play over there will be pretty rad. Itching to get playing everywhere really!
HTF: What can fans expect from your live set?
ETL: Raw, energetic, sweaty and honest rock gig. We’ve always disliked scripted, staged bullshit that some bands do, I think you can always tell and its really awkward. Every night is different, you feed off the crowds vibes and they feed off yours, we’re basically laying our heart and soul on a plate and getting down to it. It’s a, this is us, you’re welcome to come along, kind of thing. Those are the best ones when everyone is just ‘in it’.
HTF: You guys are from Newcastle, what’s the music scene like there?
ETL: It’s a mixed one I think, there are some amazing bands playing up here but because we’re so far north it gets over looked so easily. Even the fucking huge bands go Leeds…Scotland. Its frustrating but there can be good points to it, like everyone knows each other and people get together and help each other which is the point of a scene I think.
HTF: If you could sit down for a chat with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
ETL: You.
HTF: Lastly, what exciting plans have you got lined up for this year?
ETL: We’ve got a bunch of stuff lined up, a couple UK tours, the next single and video, the trip out to the states and possibly Europe
and recording some new stuff too. It’s an all systems go, watch this space sorta vibe!
