2013 was year of extreme highs and unbelievable lows for the Deftones. There album ‘Koi No Yokam’ proved the band are still at the top of their game and the tours and festival appearances only cemented that statement. Sadly though it wasn’t all good news as former bassist Chi Cheng’ , who had been in a coma for many years due to car crash, lost his battle and passed away in mid April.
The band have now decided they need to take 2014 off before returning in 2015 with a new album, news that will surely get many people excited. Despite this they are playing this summers Sonisphere Festival.
Vocalist Chino Moreno had this to say –
“We just finished a tour, so we’re gonna take the rest of the year off. We’re gonna start writing some music early next year. I just moved to Oregon and Stephen is down in L.A. and Abe and Frank are in Sacramento, and Sergio is in Europe. The idea is to just get together. The last couple records, we just threw ourselves into a small room and started playing.
“We just work organically, which I think works better than me writing a song and saying, ‘Hey guys, learn this.’ Hopefully in February we’ll spend a couple weeks together, and just kind of get together and write music.”
