Last year, CityLights declared that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus, leaving fans shocked and saddened. However, the folk-pop act have got a massive announcement up their sleeves; CityLights will return to serve as the alter ego of frontman and lead songwriter Ric Rodriguez. Read his official statement here:
“I’ve always wondered what I’d say in this situation… As you’re all probably aware, the band has been split up since about August last year. We achieved so much in our two year run, but life has a habit of changing, and people have to make decisions to do what’s right for them. And so it was with us. We set the band up to play music we loved, and to just have some fun; the band quickly got to the point where that wasn’t enough – we HAD to commit to more and more to keep up with the industry, and ultimately, as we all managed hectic lives around the band, it became impossible maintain a happy equilibrium between everything. But, over the last few weeks, I’ve been thinking about this, and having spoken to the guys, they support me in what I’ve decided. The fact is, this band was a huge part of my life, and too much hard work, sweat, tears, beer, blood, and god knows what else, was put into it to just leave things as they are. As a result, I am bringing the band back. I can’t replace Dan or Joe as it just wouldn’t feel right, so I’ll be going out alone – and I’ll be doing what this band originally set out to do – play the music I love and do what I do, because I love doing it. I can’t promise major touring schedules and pristine singles, released over a perfectly crafted release schedule, but I’m hoping to go with the proverbial ‘flow’, put a record out in the near future and to get out to see as many of you as I can. Over the past two years, your support has been absolutely incredible, and I hope that you all can continue to support this band and everything we stand for, in this new chapter of it’s existence.
