Shura – ‘Touch’ (Audio)

Listen to the debut track from Shura here!

Fans of ‘70s and ‘80s pop, as well as some smooth ‘90s R&B, say hello to your new favourite songstress – Shura.

Heralding from England and Moscow, Shura is one multitalented artist, producing her own music as well as working as video editor and songwriter. Music and film runs in her veins, her mother being a Russian actress (who controversially turned down a role in ‘Goldeneye’ due to her beliefs that James Bond was anti-Russian), while her father is a British documentary filmmaker. Shura first began putting together some demos back at university in London after being introduced to songwriting by her DJ brother who got her into electronic music and encouraged her to start making her own tunes. After refining her own production skills and immersing herself in the textured sounds of acts like Massive Attack, Shura gave the music a break and took off on an adventure in South America where her confessional songwriting style found its pop filter.

‘Touch’ is an effortless mix of hip hop beats, lush synths and the singer’s distinctly smooth vocals which recalls a past heartbreak and the longing to be with someone no longer within your reach. Written and co-produced by Shura, the track channels some Blood Orange and even Janet Jackson’s ‘The Velvet Rope’, resulting in a warm and accessible introduction to an up-and-coming artist.

If ‘Touch’ is anything to go by, Shura is sure to be one of the breakout talents of the year ahead. Listen to it below!
