The former member of Secret Machines and School of Seven Bells Benjamin Curtis passed away last month aged only 35. He had been suffering from T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.
Fellow New Yorker and friend Paul Banks paid tribute to his passing: “Benjamin was gentle and soft spoken and yet he always seemed to be alight. There was a fire inside him that came through as a powerful charisma on or off stage. He was special. I used to refer to him as ‘Mr Mojo’, to portray what I felt was his indelible magnetism.”
School of Seven Bells formed in 2007 and released three albums heavily influenced by shoegazing and dream-pop. Their last release was ‘Ghostory‘ in 2012. It is yet known about the bands future.
The Interpol singer goes on to say that Curtis leaves “an incredible legacy. He will always be an inspiration for me and anyone else who was blessed to spend time with him, see him perform, or hear his music. In all of his endeavors he brought a signature presence – style, poise and fury.”
