Max Rafferty, the former bassist of British indie band The Kooks has lashed back at claims he left the band due to a drug problem almost three years after they were made. When Rafferty first left the band in 2008, The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard claimed that the reasoning behind the bassist departure was because
“[Rafferty was] taking drugs probably a lot more than he should have been doing or wanted to be doing”.
However, three years on Rafferty hit back in an interview with the Daily Star and said the suggestion he had a massive drug problem was “A load of arse”. Rafferty believed he was kicked out of the band after expressing his opinions in regard to the bands second album. Rafferty said “I didn’t think ‘Konk’ was very good, and I said that. I was unhappy with the whole situation, but it was made to sound like I had a massive drug problem“.
