Introducing a new indie feature, The Bootleg Of The Week. Granted, studio albums may be more polished and clean, but sometimes they lack the charm and energy of a band in their prime feeding off the energy of a rampant crowd, or as in this weeks case a new take on a classic.
Across the coming weeks we’ll be sharing links to some legendary and not so well known bootlegs from the world of indie.
To kick things off here’s a link to Spiritualized‘s ‘Acoustic Mainline’ performance in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2010. The set contains selections from the amazing ‘Songs From A&E’ as well as many hits and deep cuts from Jason Pierce and co’s extensive back catalog.
The acoustic nature of the songs, backed by strings and choir, allows the works to breath and for their emotions to come through more than on the bands usual looser psychedelic inspired electric performances. What makes this all the more haunting is the fact that Jason Pierce almost died of double pneumonia only a few years before this performance.
