Annik Honré, Former Girlfriend Of Ian Curtis, Dies Aged 56 According To French Media

Annik Honré, former mistress of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis has died. Find out more here.

joydivisionPress in France have been reporting that Annik Honré, former mistress of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis has died.

Libération and a number of other French based sources have written that Belgian Honré has passed away after a long illness, leaving behind her two children.

The Nottingham Post in a review of Peter Hook & The Light at The Rescue Rooms stated that former Joy Division and New Order bassist, Hook opened the gig with the announcement of Honré’s death.

It was a completely pure and platonic relationship, very childish, very chaste… I did not have a sexual relationship with Ian, he was on medication, which rendered it a non-physical relationship. I am so fed up that people question my word or his: people can say whatever they want, but I am the only person to have his letters…”.

Annik’s affair with Joy Division singer Ian Curtis was sad to have inspired their biggest hit ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. Following the release of the biopic Closer, Honré told Belgian magazine Le Vif that her relationship with Curtis was “very chaste”.

Curtis, who was married to wife Deborah at the time of his relationship with Honré committed suicide in May 1980 at the age of 23, shortly after the release of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’
