Ageing rockers don’t retire – they just keep on performing! Across the length and breadth of the UK, some of your favourite bands from the 70’s and 80’s are still entertaining crowds so we decided to take a look at some of the bands that you may not realise are still kicking some ass!

Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
In the 1970s, Steve Harley famously sang ‘Come Up And See Me And Make Me Smile’ and he’s still going strong today! Infact, he performed a number of shows in June this year and is even appearing at the Legends Of Rock festival this coming weekend (Oct 16-19th).
If you read McCarthy & Stone’s blog, you’ll soon see that the UK’s over 50s are still playing hard and really enjoying life to the full, and Mr Harley is the perfect example of this at a modest 63 years old.

The Beat
If you relished the fast-paced ska music of the 70s/80s then you probably owned a copy of Mirror in the Bathroom by The Beat. They’re still performing, though the line up has changed a little as Ranking Roger has replaced Dave Wakeling – although Wakeling now performs with an offshoot band, The English Beat.
If you want to see a group of 50 and 60 year olds having the time of their lives, as well as a new generation of fans, you must try one of their gigs. Dancing is obligatory.

If you want an excuse to don your leather jacket again, go and see them or any of the other wonderful bands from the punk era. In their heyday, many of these groups didn’t believe in a future … now they are hitting their 50s and perhaps reconsidering this outlook!

Egypt Blues Band (aka The Groundhogs)
For down and dirty rock and roll, no one did it better than The Groundhogs. Three members of the original band still perform on a regular basis under the name of Egypt Blues Band. Tony McPhee fronts his own band but if you want to see sterling and gutsy performances by Alan Fish (bass) Eric Chipulina (guitar and vocals) and Pete Correa (drums) then forget the greying hair and increasing waistlines and just enjoy the music that this hardworking band still produce.
