Recently, Guy Gerber brought his infamous party RUMORS to London for a special street party in Shoreditch. Set up in Ibiza in 2014, RUMORS was originally a free, unannounced party that took over Beachhouse, a stylish beach bar in Playa Den Bossa.
Staying true to the original ethos of Ibiza, the RUMORS parties rejected hype by avoiding the mega-lineup announcements and posters across the rest of the island, with very little information about the parties being given away until the last minute, if at all.
Despite this, 2015’s RUMORS parties saw the huge artists like Sasha, Miss Kittin, Kenny Glasgow and Matthew Dear sharing the decks alongside Gerber, as well as many of the label’s upcoming artists.
Following the resounding success of the parties in Ibiza, RUMORS have been spreading worldwide. With Guy bringing his flamboyant production, and deep, innovative techno to Art Basel in Miami, BPM in Mexico, and We Are FSTVL in London.
Now on a sunny July afternoon, RUMORS has taken over a street in Shoreditch, for a Morrocan themed day party. With RUMORS residents supporting Guy, we see Bas Ibellini, Acid Mondays, Bill Patrick and dOP (Live) all joining him for this sold out event. For those with enough stamina to last out the all day dancing, the after party also followed at Fabric.
With the crowd filtering in quickly, it doesn’t take long for this narrow street to be wall to wall faces, of the uber-stylish RUMORS followers. It’s virtually impossible to walk through the crowd as the dance floor stretches back as far as the door. This being the only downfall of the day, as it does appear that the event may have been slightly oversold. Thankfully it doesn’t kill the vibe, and the party loving attitude of everyone present flows right the way through until the end.
Guy Gerber’s vision of the perfect musical event will remain the same no matter what the stage or country: “The night has a very particular flow… it has to start very deep, very spiritual, and it slowly builds up, never too fast. It’s a very natural-feeling party. The tracks played must have some substance, not too loopy, and have some kind of musical vibe in them. I’m looking for challenging deep house.”
“It takes a minute to start a rumor but a lifetime to stop it.” It might have taken more than a minute for respected Israeli producer Guy Gerber to found his imprint and event series RUMORS, but it certainly looks set to have the staying power of its namesake.
The event was also the perfect opportunity for the announcement of Guy’s biggest London show to date. He will now return to London on Saturday 9th September at the iconic Roundhouse, in Camden.
