HTF: Trumpdisco! I personally chose you as my top artist to look out for this year and have personally been following your music now for over a year, can you tell the UK why I have been doing this, what’s so special about Trumpdisco?
TD: Firstly, thanks for that! I was very flattered and hopefully Trump’s lived up to the expectation =) I don’t like to talk about this kind of stuff haha but if I had to I’d say I like to think my approach to Trumpdisco is different to what you might call a standard electronic dance act. Whenever I get a remix I always try to put a unique and personal touch on the track, and most importantly, I try to fill my tracks with energy.
HTF: So what’s been goin’ down in 2012 for Trumpdisco?
TD: Well I’ve been touring a lot, seeing lots of new places and meeting new people, which is always great. Some countries which were out of my usual path were South Korea and South Africa. South Africa was especially fun as I arrived a few days earlier to hang out with Haezer and work on some tracks together (stay tuned ;) )
Aside from that I’ve been playing around Australia pretty continuously and been working out plenty of remixes for a large variety of artists within ‘the scene’ and even some projects completely from left field. Work has begun on a Trumpdisco live show and I currently putting together another EP.
HTF: ‘OV Shark’ was your second EP release, which was released at the beginning of this year, Featuring ‘Airwolf’ on one of the tracks. Did you get to tour this EP and was it a poo raving success for you?
TD: haha yeah it was actually! So many crinkled mornings on that tour…
HTF: (HTF Exclusive) We couldn’t help but notice that the electro duo has been touring as a solo, with just yourself Alex. Can we ask why this is?
TD: Yes as of last December Trumpdisco is just myself. Joe is a great musician and has always been in other bands. Trump took precedence when it came to studio and touring but as the Trump schedule became more hectic and his other bands (‘Love Migrate’ and ‘King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’) became more successful he became increasingly torn for time. With longer Trump tours coming, combined with two other bands release schedules, he couldn’t keep it up. As he found himself not being able to dedicate to Trump as much we began talking about the issue and in the end we decided that I’d take control of Trump. We’re still best mates and he jumps on stage with me when Trump plays Melbourne shows.
HTF: Will this change Trumpdisco?
TD: Well things are definitely different now that there’s just the one mind working on things but in many ways things are the same, just I have twice as much work to do now! We both taught ourselves how to produce together and our songs/remixes have always been a mix of individual and collaborative efforts. For me the most noticeable difference is the touring side. Not having a mate with you all the time is weird but I feel I’ve become much more sociable as a result. 

Lastly the work rate is FAR different. Sometimes with multiple projects on the go we’d just split the load and get things done really quickly (Need to keep the manager happy!). On the flip side when there was something that needed to be done but wasn’t much fun it was easy to keep palming the work off to the other guy. Now, if I don’t do it, it doesn’t get done. It’s harder but much more rewarding.
HTF: Any plans for a third EP to come soon? If so, what can fans and new fans expect from this new EP?
TD: Yeah definitely, work is well and truly underway. Vocals have recently been recorded for the single. There’s some cool collabs, a few new tracks and some pretty out there stuff. The single is something new for me, as I’ve never worked on an original track with vocals before so it’s been fun making the tune. In talks with some great labels for the release too.
HTF: We love Trumpdisco remixes, what’s the latest we can access our ears and feet to?
TD: Recently released is my remix of ‘Little Creatures’ by Autodidakt and Blaze Tripp. I literally just sent in my final version of a remix for Andy’s iLL called ‘Disco Bullets’. I’m excited for this one to come out, I met Andy over in Canada whilst on tour, we hung out a lot at the festival Valhalla talking shit and drinking beers and this remix sums up the ‘lols’ that were had that weekend.
Also on the way out is a remix for my man Kissy Sell Out as well as remixing the main theme from the video game Deux Ex which is really good fun to play around with. Oh and there’s few big remixes coming up which I’ll keep secret for now, but lets just say one of them is for someone who greatly inspired me in the early years, is from Russia and it begins with a P…
HTF: And what’s a banging remix we can look forward to in the near future?
TD: The Trumpdisco remix of Kissy Sell Out’s ‘Under Arrest’ is the soonest to be released. If you pre order the ‘San City High ALL STARS’ album from pledge music you can get the album in December. The remix for Andys iLL will be coming out shortly after in January.
HTF: Any plans for a winter tour?
TD: Yes! I’ll be heading over to the UK and Europe Late November through to the end of December =)
HTF: Have you played in the UK before?
TD: No actually not yet, There were a few dates confirmed in November which I had to pull out on unfortunately, hopefully soon though!
HTF: Are you looking forward to an English tea, maybe a scone?
TD: Yes absolutely! Actually I grew up in England not getting to Aus until I was 16, so it’ll be great to get back, catch up with the family and definitely have some tea!
HTF: Finally, we do love our food here at HTF “oink!”, especially a good sandwich! which if not made right, can turn out to be just a plain old breaded boring mess. If you could summarise for us a fulfilling Trumpdisco sandwich, what would be that sandwich?
TD: A woman after my own heart…
Well to start you need some legit whole egg mayo and don’t be stingey with it. A good crusty baguette, like 5 different mustards, oh yeah and butter the bread. Ham off the bone, grieve cheese, crisp cos lettuce, big sliced tomatoes bit of salt and pepper. Yeaaahh
