6 months on from our last catchup, we find out what our favourite, underground, masked producer ‘Funtcase’ has been up to. With big mixes and tour’s this summer, and the increase in Dubstep’s popularity, HTF wanted to know what indulgement in true music we can expect from him this Autumn and Winter. HTF: You have been a very busy masked young man this summer, where have you and the mask been?
F: Where haven’t I been?! I’ve just literally come back from an amazing time at Outlook, also just finished an australian tour about a month ago and visiting other random countries in the midst of them and smacking up the UK all at once!
HTF: Travelling a-far and spreading the dark dubstep, we hope you’ve kept your mask clean? What’s been a personal highlight for you this year?
F: My gf Phoebe has been keeping it clean or it would smell like a hobo’s armpit right now! Wow, personal highlight…erm…possibly playing the metropolis tent at Global Gathering, which was an amazing experience!
HTF: What mixes/productions have you been working hard on?
F: Well ive been remixing my life away as im sure people can see, but its not such a bad thing…and also been cunjouring up my e.p. for Circus along with some other bits.
HTF: We spoke earlier in the year how Dubstep is now becoming mainstream, and even entering our ‘Official UK Chart’ due to softer re-makes. How do you feel about some of the changes? Do you worry the quality and dark side is getting lost?
F: Not at all, I think the more commercial scene is taking to the heavier styles alot better, look at how well Bass Cannon (Flux Pavilion) did! That’s high end madness but its popular. Nero of course are leaving a massive mark with hitting number 1 and same with DJ Fresh but the pop scene has never really had charted dark and heavy stuff much so its not a surprise at all really. There’s been some great support for the darker styles that I do by Zane Lowe, Mista Jam and Crissy Criss and wether it charts or not, its on the radio at peak times and I’d say thats almost as good.
HTF: Yet, it is great that dubstep banger’s we heard a longtime back in the underground are now getting there chance to shine? A magical musical yo-yo?
F: Quite possibly! Back in the days, classics werent out there much as dubstep wasnt out there as much as it is now and its great to see it finally get the recognition it deserves. I once heard Midnight Request Line by Skream on Top Gear haha!
HTF: Any New Producer’s you are personally loving?
F: Genetix and Persist are fully killing it at the moment and a few others im working with to get their sound better…names will fly about soon ;)
HTF: And any big collaboration’s coming up?
F: Yeah massive ones…but im going to keep them cheekily quiet until their ready and i start playing them out
HTF: So what can we expect from Funtcase as the cold 2011 months kick in?
F: Well like I say lots of remixes flying about, including my new remix of The Jungle by Sigma and a few others. Hopefully my e.p. might surface this year and just general ear rape in clubs worldwide!
HTF: Any big 2012 music resolution’s on the card’s already?
F: To continue to work hard and make ears bleed…oh and maybe eat less sugar
HTF: How’s mummy Funtcase, is she still ripping up the decks herself? She must be so proud of her son!
F: Yeah shes amazed at how its all panned out, as am i! but shes still working her magic in the music world!
