DJ Rashad has sadly passed away aged 35.
The footwork DJ/producer who released the critically acclaimed ‘Double Cup’ album via Kode 9‘s label Hyperdub last year, was found dead in his home on the west side of Chicago on Saturday 26th April. Although the cause of Rashad Harden’s premature death is not known, it is suspected that the DJ took an overdose, which post-mortem examination have been carried out this past weekend.
DJ Godfather was first to announce the tragic news on Twitter as he and DJ Spinn were set to play along Rashad later that night in Detroit, saying: “R.I.P. to my long time friend DJ Rashad. Great friend & producer. I loved all the music we released over the years. U will be missed!”.
Chance the Rapper also went to twitter to show his love and appreciation for DJ Rashad, by tweeting: “Music lost a legend today. And he was my friend. Love you DJ Rashad. RIP”.
Hyperdub are set to release a statement later today.
