How I Met Your Mother creators, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays recently took to Twitter to announce that an alternate ending to the series finale will be available on the Season 9 DVD and Series Box Set.
“To #HIMYM fans who loved the finale: Thank you so much, it means a lot! – To #HIMYM fans who didn’t love the finale: We respect you and for every controversial finale, there is always a Plan B.”

Bay added: “We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too.”
No other information is currently known surrounding the alternative ending, however more news may appear within the upcoming weeks before the How I Met Your Mother Season 9 DVD release.
