An agreement has been made between BBC Worldwide, Polish broadcaster TVP, Poland’s Apple Film Production and U.K.’s Red Planet Pictures to produce new World War One drama ‘The Passing Bells’.
The mini series drama will be shot in Poland and has been written by top showrunner Tony Jordan, best known for having been lead writer for Eastenders as well as the man behind the con-man drama Hustle. Jordan, who is also executive producer and managing director of Red Planet, has expressed excitement about the newly formed partnership; feelings which have been reciprocated by TVP1’s director Piotr Radziszewski.
The mini series will be formed of five 30 minute episodes and in its plot description the BBC explains:
“The story looks at all aspects of the war – from the families left behind to the strategic decisions by politicians and generals that led to unimaginable bloodshed and the tragedy of the trenches.’’
The show will be aired on TVP in November which will run alongside celebrations to mark the rebirth of Poland at the end of the war. The Passing Bells will be shown in the UK on BBC1 although the date on which it will be aired has not yet been announced.
