We are massive animal lovers here at HTF so any time we get to promote helping animals we are always happy to oblige.
Energy company ‘SSE’ recently set up a project called ‘Community At Heart’. The basics are they give each of their 22,000 employees the chances to take a day out of their normal work routine and lend their hand to a local community project totally free of charge. It gives organisations, charities and groups the chance to get an extra team of hands when needed and give them that extra bit of help.
We were very happy to see one of their days out involved helping the dogs at the Greyhound Rescue in Fife. The sanctuary was set up in 2005 by Celia and Jimmy Fernie to help unwanted Greyhounds reaching the end of their racing careers. They can kennel between 40-50 dogs at a time and are cared for around the clock making sure they are vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
Did you know that every year 30,000 greyhound are in need of homes? Greyhounds make amazing pets and are quiet, affectionate dogs that often are good with children and other pets so make great companions. Most racing dogs end up coming into kennels around 2-5 years old as their racing career ends and they can live up to 11-12 years so have plenty of life in them yet so maybe give one a chance at a new life if your looking at getting a dog for your family.
You can check out some of the dogs that need homes and find out more about the sanctuary at their website http://www.greyhoundrescuefife.com/
Check out the video below and see what SSE got up to on their visit to the santucary. If you would like to contact them about helping your organisation you can email them at volunteering@sse.com. Give them a shout animal shelters! I’m sure the cats and dogs will love the attention and you never know, maybe some one will give one a home as well!
