With Zach Braff‘s successful Kickstarter campaign finished, he was able to gather a cast and crew to shoot his new film, Wish I Was Here. Since then the film has been in post-production until it recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was bought by Focus Features for nearly $3 million.
Even with some mixed reviews from viewers at the film festival, it gained mass amounts of attention from buyers. BS Films and Lionsgate were involved in an auction that Focus Features won.
Braff co-wrote, directed and starred in the film that he had created through his Kickstarter campaign, also using his own money and financing from several production companies. His character is Aidan Bloom, a struggling 35-year-old actor who is having trouble finding his identity and providing for his family.
Kate Hudson plays the role of his wife and the couple are struggling financially, when his father, played by Mandy Patinkin, becomes ill and is unable to pay for his kids’ private schooling. Though Aidan has a lot of learning yet to accomplish himself, this seen through his fantasy character Space-Knight, he takes it unto himself to teach the kids.
Wish I Was Here is expected to hit screens later this year.
