Director Cameron, released a statement announcing his pleasure that they would both be coming back to the roles, which pretty much launched their careers –
“Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”
In the first film, Worthington’s Jake fell for Saldana’s Na’vi huntress Neytiri whilst he was searching their moon, Pandora, in his Avatar body. Although no plot details have been confirmed yet, presumably the sequels will follow their further adventures on the planet.
Cameron is currently working on the scripts with experienced writers Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno, with the films all set to be produced in Lord of The Rings set country, New Zealand.
Avatar 2 is set for December 2016 with the other two following in subsequent years 2017 and 2018.
